PEACE

Psalm 29:11: "Those who trust in the Lord will be blessed with peace"

If you're new to following Jesus, you might not understand the instinct to reach for your Bible when you need to feel peace, love, acceptance, or any other feeling that would cause you to reach for something or someone that would be a temporary "fix".

So, how do you do that? If you don't feel the pull to read your Bible daily, just try the trick that people sometimes use to get themselves to the gym regularly or to start eating healthier. Have you heard that if you stick with something for two weeks you will develop a habit? It's true! Reading your Bible every day can change the way you see things. It can change the way you react to situations. I'm not saying you won't slip up from time to time. I've found that if I get busy and don't take time for reading the Word, I start losing interest. If I am being completely honest, there have been times when I have had to force myself to sit down and open the Bible. I never want to get to the point where I never open my Bible again! That thought makes my stomach hurt, honestly. And as soon as I start reading, that peace comes right back, and so does the habit.

Here are just a few verses for you relating to peace:

  • John 14:27: "I am leaving you with a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give you is a gift the world cannot give. So, don't be troubled or afraid."

  • Psalm 4:8: "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, will keep me safe."

  • 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: "All praise to God, the Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort He has give us."

  • Numbers 6: 26: May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace."

  • Isaiah 26:3-4 : You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You. Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock."

  • Philippians 4:6-9: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you."

  • Zephaniah 3:17: For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.

Friend, there are so many more! In the back of your Bible, there should be a dictionary/concordance section where you can look up verses for any topic. If not, put Google to use! But, if you use Google, please refer to you Bible to make sure the verses are accurate and complete.

I pray that this was helpful to you and that your life will be filled with the peace that only God can provide!

I read my Bible before I get out of bed, otherwise I get busy and forget. A very good habit to get into is at some point in the day read your Bible. Every time you read it you find something different.
